Differentiation with Technology

There are multiple technology experiences that students will have during the three-day remediation lesson. Some of those include: Really Great Reading Playground, FlipGrid, and Google Slides. The Really Great Reading Playground program will be used for students to practice the skills that they were working on during the lesson. This program will allow them to interact with the content in a fun way using games and activities. FligGrid will be used for students to record themselves so they and the teacher can hear their fluency. Having students record themselves helps student hear their tone and voice, and it also makes it easy for teachers to see how all of their students' fluency is progressing (King, 2016). Google Slides will give students the opportunity to show what they know in a different way. They will also need to apply what they know about short vowel sounds to the words that they created for fun as a class.

With technology, there are some problems that may arise so it is important that technology is being used properly. Some ways to do that are to have clear directions and expectations (Williamsburg, 2021). When students know the expectations, and know how to use the technology, they will be more engaged in the activity. The Really Great Reading Playground and Google Slides will keep students most engaged in the learning. This is because the Playground, will allow students to interact with their learning in a way that is fun and game-based. The Google Slides gives students a chance to show what they know on a task that they are very familiar with, but in a new way. They will be able to choose the words they want, and select pictures that relate to what they choose.

The different technology that is being used is either going to expose students to other perspectives, help them at the level that is appropriate for them, or promotes global awareness by having them take leadership and ownership of their work. One way to promote global awareness is to have guest speakers come into class and share their perspectives or experiences (McVeagh, 2015). The way that this was incorporated was to have someone from a different state or even country join virtually and read a picture book story that relates to a topic that means something to them.
